COLOGNE: Ford has just taken the wraps off an updated version of the Ka+ for 2018, which sees the subcompact city car benefitting from new styling, new infotainment, and a range of new engines. There will also be an Active-badged crossover version of the Ka+ that's being introduced to the range, which will complement the soon to be released Fiesta Active in the smaller section of Ford's SUV range.

As well as the enhanced interior and exterior styling, the 2018 Ka+ is designed to deliver more comfort and convenience and more driver assistance technologies than we see with the current model.

Along with what Ford describes as "generous space for five passengers and ample luggage," the new versions of the Ka+ and the all-new Ka+ Active will be available with premium technology features such as Ford's latest SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps.

Unlike some of the other smaller vehicles on the market, the Ka+ and Ka+ Active will for the first time offer a choice of petrol and diesel powertrains. They will include Ford's new refined and fuel-efficient 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Ti-VCT petrol engine in 69hp or 84hp forms, and the 94hp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine designed for those drivers intending to do higher mileage in their Ka+.

"Last year, Ford sold more than 200,000 SUVs in Europe for the first time, and demand for SUV and crossover models has never been higher," said Ford's vice president for marketing, sales and service Roelant de Waard. "Our new Ford KA+ Active model will this year make the crossover affordable to even greater numbers of customers, with aspirational styling and sophisticated technologies customers would expect to see in much more expensive cars."

The KA+ Active crossover is the second in a new line-up of Active-badged models Ford will now be offering, and follows on from the new Fiesta Active that will also go on sale later this year. Active models feature the kind of SUV-inspired styling that's so popular with buyers today.

Other key features include a raised ride height and additional bodyside mouldings, but they will still deliver hatchback practicality.
