Foton Tunland V7/V9 diesel hybrid pick-ups coming: RM129K and RM149K estimated

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foton Tunland V7 and V9 diesel mild hybrid pick-up trucks are due for a launch in Malaysia in late May, with estimated prices at 128,888 (V7) and RM148,888 (V9).

The warranty package is seven years or 200,000km (whichever is first).

Both pick-up trucks are powered by a 2.0-litre Aucan turbo-diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, which produces up to 161ps of power and 450Nm of torque.

Fuel consumption is said to be from eight to 10 litres per 100km, for a range up to 950km with a 76-litre fuel tank.

The V7 has leaf springs in the rear, while the V9, designed for lifestyle versatility, comes with a rear multi-link coil suspension.

Features will include ventilated leather seats (memory function only in the V9), panoramic sunroof (only on V9), a large 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, six driving modes, paddle shifters, level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera system.

Tunland Malaysia says other features will include a 3.5-tonne towing capacity with close to one-tonne payload, the biggest cargo bay in-class with black spray on liner to prevent rusting, step up ladder from rear tail gate, 18-inch black rims with all-terrain tyres, and offroad quality steel side steps and powder coated sports bar.

The company also says the pick-up trucks are the largest in class with roomy interiors, and can be compared with American trucks such as the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram 1500.

"They mark a milestone entry into Malaysia’s growing market for lifestyle adventure and work-based vehicles, and come with many first in refinement and functions," says Tunland Malaysia.

The exclusive importer and assembler for Foton commercial vehicles is Handal BCM, established in 1997 and recently acquired as a subsidiary of HI Mobility Bhd.

These vehicles include Forland light trucks and the Tunland pick-up trucks which are said to be selling well in Australia, South Africa and South America.

The imported Foton Tunland V Series of pick-ups will arrive from mid May onwards.

Local assembly of the Foton Tunland V Series of pick-ups is due to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 in Johor.
