SERDANG: Warisan Tan Chong Automotif (WTCA), the sole distributor of GAC's Aion electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia, has officially unveiled the all-electric Y Plus crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV).
Offered in two fully-imported (CBU) variants for now, 100 units have arrived in the country and will be on display at all authorised dealerships in June.
Prices start with the Elite at RM119,800 (on-the-road without insurance) while the range-topping Premium at RM135,800.
According to WTCA, deliveries will begin in June for the Elite variant and July for the range-topping Premium.
The Y Plus is available in seven body colours - Lucky Gold, Pure White, Elegant Grey, Youthful Green, Quick Silver, Liberty Ash and Glamour Black.
Additionally, there are five interior designs as well which provides budding owners with 35 colour combinations for choice.
Warranty is an eight-year or 160,000km or the EV while its battery, drive motor, and electric control unit get an eight-year or 200,000km coverage.
An early-bird package is also available for the first 200 bookings which includes a 7kW Home Charger worth RM3,500 and RM1,000 JomCharge charging credits.
Furthermore, as an added option, early adopters can choose either an Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Set which entails an Aion-branded camping set and V2L Cable (for Premium only) while the “Me-Time” Mobile Theatre Set comes with an in-car movie theatre set.
With a 2,750mm wheelbase and a 405 litre boot (expandable to 1,200L), this crossover SUV weighs in at 1,695kg (kerb) for the Elite and 1,750kg for the Premium.
It has a length of 4,535mm, width of 1,870mm and height of 1,650mm.
The battery is the 63.2kWh "magazine" Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) type that provides up to 490km (NEDC) of range and can be charged via AC (6.6kW via Type-2) and DC (80kW via CCS2).
The electric motor delivers 150kW (204PS) and 225Nm of torque to the front wheels for a 0 to 100kph sprint in 8.5 seconds.
Four available driving modes are Eco, Normal, Sport and the "i-Pedal" single-pedal choice.
As standard, the Y Plus features "Angel Wing" LED headlights, Skyline through-type LED rear light clusters, pop-out door handles, roof rails, an electric power steering system and a panoramic sunroof among others.
The Y Plus features front MacPherson struts and rear torsion beam suspension and uses 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/55 series tyres and disc brakes.
Also included is a six-way powered driver seat, 10.25-inch digital cluster, keyless entry, automatic climate control with rear vents and a PM2.5 air filter.
A Bongiovi six-speaker sound system is controlled by a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that comes with Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay (wired), 360-degree surround view monitor as well as front and rear USB ports.
For safety, there are six airbags, anti-lock braking system, vehicle dynamics control, hill-hold control and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The Premium variant adds on larger 18-inch wheels with 215/50 series tyres, driver seat ventilation, power-adjustability for the front passenger seat, a wireless charger, a 32-colour Ambient lighting suite with music mode and a hands-free powered tailgate.
Furthermore, Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) has been included as well, namely Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Intelligent Cruise Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning with Lane-Keeping Assist and Traffic Jam Assist.
Warisan TC Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Tan Keng Meng said the specification level and package put together for the GAC Aion Y Plus would meet the expectation of the discerning urbanite shopping for an exciting EV.
Also present at the launch was GAC AION New Energy Automobile Co Ltd general manager (Southeast Asia) Ma Haiyang who said the Y Plus intends to showcase its owner's unique character and is designed to effortlessly lead a trend.
"We are also pleased with our collaboration with both WTCA and the Tan Chong Group, and we are confident that they will help grow the GAC Aion brand further in Malaysia," Ma said.
Currently, there are now 21 new showrooms and service centres set up over the last four months across the nation with more set to become operational within the year.
