KUALA LUMPUR: The GAC Emkoo C-segment sport utility vehicle (SUV) is due to launched in Malaysia in 2024, in addition to the GAC GS3 Emzoom compact SUV and all-electric GAC Aion Y Plus.
WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, had a recent preview of the three GAC vehicles.
"We are eager to offer our guests an insight and preview of the GAC line up that WTCA will be introducing in Malaysia later this year", said Warisan TC Holdings CEO Tan Keng Meng.
It is likely that the Emkoo here will share the same powertrain with the GS3 Emzoom, which has a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol direct injection (TGDI) engine with 177ps at 5,500rpm and 270Nm at 1,400rpm.
Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and fuel consumption is rated at 16.1km per litre.
The Emkoo is quite large at 4,680mm (length); 1,901mm (width) and 1,670mm (height) with wheelbase at 2,750mm.
Compared with the 2024 Honda CR-V, the Emkoo is slightly shorter (11mm less) and lower in height (11mm less), but is wider (35mm more) and has a longer wheelbase (49mm more).
The Emkoo features a borderless V-Shape grille and stylish “Eyes of Revelation” LED headlamps, with futuristic-looking rear tail lights.
Tan said, “The GAC Emkoo is another exhilarating addition to our lineup, representing the next phase of our commitment to delivering diverse and high-quality vehicles to meet the evolving needs of Malaysian consumers. Stay tuned for more details about this avant-garde vehicle.”
