SHANGHAI: Now in its 21st edition and having first opened its doors in 1985, the Shanghai Motorshow, or as it’s more colloquially known, “Auto Shanghai”, the biennial event was held from April 23 to May 2 at the National Exhibition & Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai, China.
Boasting over 360,000sq m of exhibition space, Auto Shanghai is said to be steadily eclipsing the traditional big names such as Frankfurt Motorshow in terms of size and visitor count.
In 2025, Auto Shanghai drew more than a million visitors over the span of the show and featured over 1,000 exhibitors spread over 16 massive halls.

Standing tall, literally, at Hall 6, was the Geely Auto pavilion, taking up an entire block and half to showcase their latest wares, not just in terms of vehicles, but something that’s going to play a major part in all future Geely offerings, AI a.k.a. Artificial Intelligence.
“AI for All, All for Safety” is the tagline that Geely adopted for Auto Shanghai 2025, while at the same time using the opportunity to unveil its latest Galaxy Cruiser SUV, which coincidentally incorporates the aforementioned AI innovations.

Additionally at the show, Geely also announced the establishment of a new self-developed and in-house produced battery brand called the Geely Golden Short Blade Battery, and the world’s largest standalone safety laboratory, the Geely Global Safety Center.
These initiatives underscore Geely’s dedication to setting new safety and performance standards in the battery sector.

Making its global debut, the all-new Galaxy Cruiser SUV prototype harnesses that cutting-edge “full-domain AI” tech, making it the first-ever SUV capable of seamlessly switching between multiple energy modes such as pure electric, hybrid, and extended range, while adapting to diverse terrains and driving conditions in real time.
It even uses AI in its 4WD system, whereby the drive system adapts to whatever terrain the vehicle is on, automatically and seamlessly transitioning from city asphalt to rugged trails.

No more manually shifting levers or tweaking dials to select the different types of terrain you might be on mud, sand, rocks, tarmac or any other terrain, the AI does it all for you, quietly, instantly, seamlessly.
“The Galaxy Cruiser exemplifies Geely’s commitment to ultimate safety, incorporating five groundbreaking safety features: no loss of control, no self-ignition, no loss of connectivity, no collisions, and no sinking.

“Equipped with a ‘full-power’ AI digital chassis, the vehicle introduces innovative capabilities such as crab walking, on-the-spot turning, driving with a flat tire, and even autonomous drifting—redefining the standard for intelligent vehicles,” the company said.
Geely Geome Panda Knight & Panda Mini EV
In Japan these would be called a Kei-car, but here Geely is calling them a Panda, a mini all-electric SUV with rugged 4x4 styling, targeted at a more youthful buying audience.

Panda Knight
Powered by a single 30kW motor, it’s good for around 110Nm and a top speed of 100kph.
A mere 200km range means it’s more for the urban-jungle than anything else.

Its sibling, the Panda Mini EV has a similar powertrain.
“Egg Capsule” Concept
One of the more curious displays was this mobility idea, which completely does away with everything associated with current day EVs.

"Egg Capsule".
Emphasising space and comfort, and what’s likely a “mag-lev” type propulsion system, it remains just a concept, and what might be a possible future of sustainable-mobility.

Geely featured a racing prototype of its Binrui Cool, which was first launched in 2022.

However, unlike it’s petrol cousin, this sporty variant is powered by a methanol-based powerplant capable of 250bhp and a whopping 400Nm of torque.
