BERLIN: Hyundai offshoot Genesis has announced the launch of its new GV60 crossover, the brand's first all-electric car, in Europe this summer.

With batteries said to be able to cover a range of more than 500km, the car means competition for models like the Mercedes EQC and Audi's e-tron.

According to Genesis, the four-door model with elegant coupe lines measures around 4.5 metres. It offers space for five people and, in addition to a 432-litre boot, also has additional storage space of up to 53 litres in the front, depending on the model.

The GV60's cockpit is all about high-tech. The Chrystal Sphere gear selector on the centre console provides mood lighting when the car is turned off, a feature the model shares with the Hyundai Ioniq5 and the Kia EV6, according to the manufacturer.

The GV60 also uses the same battery with a net capacity of 77.4 kWh, allowing for a standard range of 466km for the top model.

According to Genesis, the less powerful versions can travel over 500km.

The battery works with 800-volt technology and can therefore be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes.

Buyers will have a choice between three configurations.

The standard model comes with a 168 kW (228hp) engine at the rear axle.

The next version runs with 160 kW (218hp) at the rear and 74 kW (100hp) at the front.

The top model has two 160 kW (218hp) motors. With this version, a further 20 kW (27hp) can be unlocked at the push of a button for 10 seconds. This allows the GV60 to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 235kph.

Genesis has yet to announce prices.
