KUALA LUMPUR: Gentari has rolled out a major update to its Gentari Go mobile app, introducing AutoCharge, a new feature that enables compatible electric vehicles (EVs) to start charging automatically at selected Gentari DC fast chargers without requiring users to open the app, scan a QR code or tap an RFID card.
Available from July 1, the feature aims to simplify the public charging experience by allowing drivers to simply plug in their vehicle and let the system authenticate the charging session automatically after a one-time setup.
AutoCharge works by linking a user's Gentari Go account with their registered EV during the initial setup.
Once completed, charging sessions at supported Gentari DC chargers will begin automatically whenever a compatible registered vehicle is plugged in.
According to Gentari, the feature will be rolled out progressively across its nationwide DC charging network, particularly along major highways and urban locations.
According to Gentari chief green mobility officer Fadzrul Ahmad, the latest feature reflects the growing maturity of Malaysia's EV ecosystem, where user experience is becoming as important as charging infrastructure.
To encourage early adoption, the first 500 users who successfully enrol in AutoCharge and complete their first charging session will receive RM10 in Gentari Go credits.
Gentari said there are no additional charges for using AutoCharge, while standard charging rates, existing subscription plans and ongoing promotions remain unchanged.
The company currently operates more than 600 EV charging points across Malaysia. Through the Gentari Go Roaming Hub, users can also access over 18,000 charging points across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and India using a single platform.
Alongside AutoCharge, Gentari has also refreshed its rewards programme.
Reward points earned before June 30, 2026, will remain valid until Dec 31, 2026.
Points earned from July 1, 2026 onwards will be valid for 180 days from the date they are earned.
The update also introduces stronger account security.
Users will be required to verify their mobile number before accessing Gentari Go credits, a move aimed at improving account protection while providing clearer visibility of available credit balances and expiry dates.
The updated Gentari Go app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Users can update the app, complete mobile number verification and enrol in AutoCharge within minutes.
Gentari advises users to refer to the Gentari Go app or its website for the latest list of supported EV models, compatible charging locations and setup instructions. - Zachary Ho
