GGR Motor receives support from JPJ

KUALA LUMPUR: GGR Motor's efforts to become Malaysia's first electric motorcycle (EV) manufacturer have received full support from the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

This was made official during a work visit by 25 JPJ members led by deputy director Eric Jusiang to the GGR Legacy (M) Sdn Bhd factory in Kampung Sungai Penchala.

GGR Motor managing director Muhammad Mussaddiq Mohamed Azmi said that the move was an important starting point to ensure that the production of EV motorcycles in the country was carried out according to set standards.

"This is the first visit by the authorities to our factory and it is hoped that this collaboration can facilitate the standard operating procedures for the production of EV motorcycles according to the law.

"We are very proud and honored that JPJ was willing to take the time to visit our factory. We see it as an appreciation for our efforts to develop EV motorcycles in Malaysia,” he said.

In a related development, Mussaddiq said that the grant and registration number of the company's first model, the Lion G1 EV motorcycle, can officially be registered through the JPJ system as of this month.

The model recorded more than 2,500 units of orders within a week of its launch in mid-July, with more than 6,000 units of orders expected to be delivered to owners soon.

To cope, Mussaddiq said a new assembly plant in the Northern Region will be built to meet it's growing demand.

The site will cover more than an acre of land and will be the main production hub for the Lion G1 model as well as several new models to come.

"The factory is expected to create more than 50 new job opportunities specifically in the fields of green technology and electric automotive.

"This effort is also strengthened through strategic collaborations with PMH Motor, Bateriku.com, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Petronas Lubricants Marketing Malaysia (PLMM), covering technical training, maintenance and supply chain," Mussaddiq added.

GGR Motor aims to produce up to 30,000 units of EV motorcycles by the end of 2025.
