Got a call offering to upgrade your Touch ‘n Go card? It’s a scam, company says

PETALING JAYA: Touch ‘n Go eWallet has issued an alert reminding members of the public to beware of a new scam tactic by fraudsters claiming to be the company’s employees.

In a posting on Facebook, Touch ‘n Go eWallet said these individuals will contact users with a fake ‘card upgrade’ offer where they can allegedly exchange their Touch ‘n Go cards for the enhanced version.

The scammers will also attempt to convince users that the offer is legitimate by sharing photos of their apparent ‘staff ID’.

The company has urged members of the public to ignore any calls from such individuals, adding that it currently is not running any initiatives for users to exchange or upgrade Touch ‘n Go cards.

Additionally the company reiterated that it will never ask their staff members to share employee IDs or contact customers for OTP numbers.

On social media, a number of users have shared their experiences with such scam tactics.

One Facebook user said she received a phone call from an individual claiming to be from Touch ‘n Go offering to send her a new card on behalf of the company.

The user said the individual asked for the last four digits of her IC number and the OTP number which had been sent to her mobile phone to complete the process.

The user said she found the call to be suspicious after realising that she had been signed out of her ewallet account and hung up immediately.

Another social media user also said she had received a similar phone call where she was told to share her PIN in order to verify her own account.

She also discovered that she had been logged out of her Touch ‘n Go eWallet app.

The caller claiming to be from Touch ‘n Go said her account will be locked if she did not cooperate. The user ignored the caller and reminded others to be alert as well.
