KUALA LUMPUR: The government has set up a team to help 550 employees who will lose their jobs following Goodyear's plan to shut down its Shah Alam factory.

The team will be formed by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

"The ministry and Mida have mobilised a specialised team to facilitate job placements, as well as offering upskilling and reskilling programmes for the affected employees," said Mida today.

Goodyear has been working with the government to establish a support framework for the employees, said Mida.

The tyre company has been operating at a loss since 2017, prompting an overhaul of its operations globally.
