The 1.55kg made-in-Malaysia motorcycle helmet was designed in Penang and manufactured in Jitra, Kedah - taking eight months to develop from concept to production.

Available as an open-face double-visor helmet, it was first showcased during the recent Terengganu Bike Week 2023.

With plans for export to other Southeast Asian markets in 2024, the helmets are touted to have been crafted based on the needs of riders who have a sense of individuality.

The six designs are categorised into three main themes, namely intriguing folk-tale, exciting pop culture and historical chronicles.

Tengu.

Under the intriguing folk tale category is the Kurita design which takes its design cues from a popular Japanese fable and highlights the giant octopus - a sea monster sent to recover the sacred jewel stolen from the Palace of the Dragon King by a pearl diver, Princess Tamatori. Other design elements include the katana sword, pearl, waves and flowers.

The Tsuru design features the red-crowned crane, one of the rarest in the world. It is widely regarded as a symbol of luck, longevity and fidelity. In Japan, this crane is known as the tanchozuru and is said to live up to 1,000 years. Cranes are said to grant favours in return for acts of sacrifice, as in Tsuru no Ongaeshi (crane's return of a favour).

Japop.

Within the Pop Culture category is the Japop design which makes reference to Japanese Anime and Manga-inspired art which includes a combination of traditional elements such as fish, animals with dinosaurs and the ever-popular Astro Boy character.

For an element of mystery, the Tengu design would be preferred. Tengu is a mischievous supernatural being from Japanese folklore that is said to have the ability to control the powers of the wind. With his red face long nose, robes and wings, the Tengu is not to be messed with as he can cause chaos to ensue.

Oda.

Under the historical chronicles is Oda, a design which pays tribute to the Nobunaga Oda - a fearless Japanese warlord from the Sengoku period and head of the powerful Oda clan who managed to unify all of Japan in the 1560s.

Lastly, Karasu features weapons associated with ninjas such as the shuriken, kunai and kusarigama.

"We firmly believe that our Japan Edition will capture the imagination of Malaysian riders, many of whom have grown up with Japanese culture and are familiar with the icons, motifs and characters featured," said Double Site Marketing marketing division's Farizan Mohd Akir.
