Great Wall Motor Asean gets new president


BANGKOK: China's Great Wall Motor (GWM) has appointed Clyde Cheng as the new chief for its Asean operations.

As Great Wall Motor Asean president, Cheng is tasked to reinforce the company's "New Energy Vehicles" position and expand its presence in the Asean region.

"Our goal is to further solidify our footprint in three additional countries, namely Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia, alongside our existing markets which are Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei, and the Philippines," said Cheng.

On the Malaysian market, Cheng said GWM Malaysia is working together with the government to encourage people to adopt electrified and full electric vehicles as the country undergoes a period of green transition.

Cheng joined GWM in 2002. He has held various executive roles over the years including marketing GWM Havals in Russia.

His last posting was as the assistant to the chief growth officer at GWM heaquarters in Baoding, Hebei province, China serving as a key personnel to map out the company's marketing direction, networks, user operations, and insurance-related management.
