Green Packet, Fetci to launch proof of concept multilane free-flow tolling next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Tech solution provider Green Packet Bhd is slated to run Malaysia’s first proof of concept (POC) multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) tolling system for expressways in Malaysia next year.

In a collaboration with Taiwan’s FETC International Co. (FETCi), Green Packet said the MLFF POC would be installed at Besraya Highway KM5.5 (northbound) and is scheduled for a three-month data collection starting early 2022.

In a joint statement today, Green Packet said under the partnership with FETCi, the Malaysian company would provide the funding, local insights and expertise in fintech payments.

"FETCi, being a radio-frequency identification (RFID) and free flow tolling expert that had implemented several MLFF systems in other Asian countries, would provide the front-end equipment and expertise in the MLFF implementation.

"The MLFF POC is a critical process to achieve a congestion-free highway state through better traffic infrastructure, as stipulated in the Ministry of Works’ Malaysian Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Blueprint,” said Green Packet.

According to the statement, data collected from the POC during the three-month period would be shared with relevant authorities and stakeholders, with the primary aim to prove and validate the feasibility of using the MLFF. "The data and insights are valuable for the eventual roll-out on Malaysian highways, in line with the government’s roadmap for smoother traffic,” it said.
