SYDNEY: In Australia, the new GWM Cannon Hi4-T PHEV (plug-in hybrid) ute is set to offer electric commuting, four-wheel drive capability, long-distance touring and everyday practicality in one highly capable package.
Billed as Australia's most versatile plug-in hybrid ute, it will complement the larger Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV.
The Cannon Hi4-T PHEV doubles GWM's growing electrified ute portfolio, making GWM the only automotive manufacturer in Australia to offer two PHEV ute models.
The Cannon range now spans two distinct models, three body styles and four powertrains.
At the heart of the Cannon PHEV is GWM's proprietary Hi4-T intelligent hybrid technology.
Developed specifically for body-on-frame four-wheel drive vehicles, Hi4-T intelligently integrates electrification with a traditional mechanical four-wheel drive system.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a high-output electric motor, producing a combined 310kW (421PS) and 750Nm, while delivering fuel consumption of just 2.4 litres per 100km (NEDC).
Unlike conventional hybrid systems, Hi4-T retains a traditional transmission and mechanical four-wheel drive system.
The Cannon Hi4-T PHEV has a 33.1kWh battery delivering a class-leading 115km of electric-only driving range (NEDC).
The result is lower fuel consumption, quieter operation and smooth, instant electric response.
The petrol engine can extend the driving range to an impressive 1,037km (NEDC).
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, including integrated 230V power outlets in the tub, transforms the Cannon Hi4-T into a mobile power source.
It also offers a 3,500kg braked towing capacity.
GWM says when local pricing is confirmed, the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV will become one of Australia's most affordable plug-in hybrid utes.
