GWM Malaysia: Over 1.1K GWM Wey G9 units exported

KUALA LUMPUR: GWM Malaysia has reached a significant milestone, with more than 1,100 locally assembled GWM Wey G9 vehicles exported to Thailand and Indonesia.

The company says this strengthens Malaysia's role as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for Asean.

Also, cumulative GWM vehicle assembly in Malaysia has surpassed 10,000 units since CKD (completely knocked down) production began in October 2024.

As GWM's flagship luxury MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), the GWM Wey G9 combines advanced intelligent hybrid technology, premium comfort and all-wheel-drive performance.

"Malaysia plays an important role in GWM's Asean growth strategy. Our progress from local assembly to regional exports reflects the capabilities we are building together with our Malaysian partners. With our GWM Wey G9 now reaching customers in Thailand and Indonesia, we are proud to see Malaysia taking on a greater role in GWM's regional growth," said GWM Malaysia managing director, commercial operations Stan Li Hao.

The local assembly journey began with the GWM Haval H6 HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) in 2024, assembled in partnership with EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) in Melaka.

This expanded with the GWM Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) in 2025, followed by the recent introduction of the new GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV, further strengthening its locally assembled hybrid portfolio.

Since entering Malaysia in 2022, GWM has continued to expand its product portfolio, dealer network and local assembly activities.

"Malaysia is more than an important market for GWM. It is becoming an increasingly important part of our regional growth and manufacturing strategy. These milestones reflect our long-term confidence in Malaysia and our commitment to growing together with the country's automotive industry, creating greater opportunities for local capabilities to contribute to Asean," said GWM Malaysia managing director, corporate affairs Cui Anqi.

"Crossing 10,000 locally assembled vehicles reflects the progress we have made together with our manufacturing partners. More importantly, it demonstrates our growing commitment to Malaysia. From introducing new technologies to expanding regional exports, we want to create opportunities that contribute to the development of Malaysia's automotive industry," said GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah.
