GWM sees record sales in Australia

SYDNEY: In Australia, GWM enters the final quarter of 2026 with record sales.

GWM recorded 5,212 units in September sales to equal its highest-ever monthly ranking of sixth in Australia’s new vehicle market, according to VFACTS national sales data.

The result represents a 5.1% share of the monthly market, reinforcing GWM’s position among Australia’s leading automotive brands.

September’s performance takes GWM’s year-to-date (YTD) sales to 44,959 vehicles, up 14.3% compared with the same period in 2025.

GWM remains on track to achieve its 2026 target of more than 60,000 sales in Australia.

The China automaker continues to build on its Drive To Top 5 strategy that will see the brand become a Top 5 brand in Australia by the end of 2027.

GWM’s September performance highlights the growing contribution of its electrified range, with year-on-year (YoY) sales growth across hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

GWM’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales increased 542%, with a record 609 sales delivered by the Ora 5 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

GWM is set to build on September’s momentum with the arrival of the all-new Haval H7 and Cannon Hi4-T PHEV (plug-in hybrid).

The Haval H7 will offer both hybrid and PHEV powertrains.

The all-new Cannon Hi4-T PHEV will further broaden GWM’s ute line-up, combining plug-in hybrid technology with mechanical four-wheel drive and 3,500kg braked towing capability.

Joining the Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV, Australia’s most versatile plug-in hybrid ute gives customers greater choice.

Together with the recently introduced 3.0-litre turbo-diesel Cannon Alpha and Tank 500, these arrivals reinforce GWM’s commitment to offering powertrains suited to the diverse needs of Australian consumers.

GWM Australia and New Zealand chief operating officer John Kett said September’s performance demonstrated the growing strength of the brand’s broad product and powertrain offering.

“In a very challenging market, September’s result gives GWM strong momentum as we enter the final quarter,” said Kett.

“As we mark 18 years in Australia, our mission remains clear: continue expanding our portfolio with products and technologies that best solve the real-world needs of our customers — their life, work, usage, geography and budget."
