GWM Souo S2000: Ready to soar

GREAT Wall Motor (GWM) wowed the crowd at the Auto Shanghai 2025 with the Souo S2000 - the touring motorcycle with world’s largest engine.

Under GWM’s motorcycle Souo brand, deliveries began in December last year and a flagship store was opened in Beijing with three variants made available along with colour options such as Lion Red, Meteorite Black and Swan White.

The base ST with a dual luggage case setup is priced at 218,800 yuan (RM142,000) while the mid-range GL sports three luggage cases costing 238,800 yuan (RM155,000).

Lastly, a special Founder Edition (limited to 88 units) gets tagged at 288,800 yuan (RM187,000).

The S2000 is powered by a 2.0-litre (1,999cc) flat-eight engine that draws RON95 fuel from a 26.2-litre tank to produce 153.6PS at 6,500rpm and 190Nm of torque at 4,500rpm – allowing it to reach a top speed of 210kph.

An eight-speed dual-clutch (wet) transmission manages power delivery for this tourer that has a starting weight of 450kg (kerb), and uses a prop-shaft to transmit power to the rear wheel.

With a wheelbase of 1,810mm, the bike measures 2,660mm in length, 950mm in width and 1,540mm in height.

Considering its size and weight, the Souo comes with an electric motor that provides a forward walk-assist function which can also act as a reverse gear.

With the engine sitting within the cast aluminium frame, it rolls on front 18-inch and rear 16-inch wheels fitted with 130/70 and 200/55 tyres, respectively.

Stopping power comes from dual 320mm front discs and a single 295mm rear disc - each getting abused by four-piston Brembo callipers.

The suspension consists of a Hossack-style double-wishbone front suspension system and a centrally mounted rear mono-shock absorber that starts the saddle height at 740mm while providing 130mm of ground clearance.

For stability and grip levels, it comes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control (TC) and electronic variable damping for added comfort.

Riders get to peer at a 12.3-inch touchscreen LCD instrument panel that’s powered by an automotive-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip - allowing for over-the-air updates, intelligent voice control, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation.

There’s also hill-start assist, cruise control, rear parking sensors, lane change assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and emergency SOS call.

Rounding off the list of kit is a follow-me-home function, electronic parking brake, heated grips and seats, powered angle-adjustable windshield, 360W eight-speaker sound system and rear collision warning.

To mark the occasion of the Souo S2000, a special one-off Cloud Soaring Auspicious Lion version was curated with a price tag of 668,800 yuan (RM401,400) – and has already been spoken for on the day of the showing itself.

The custom Souo S2000 was hand-painted using an airbrush to form a cloud-like pattern while utilising mother-of-pearl lacquering and actual gold foil inlays.

The front end, with the bike’s twin headlight design above its air intakes, was used to depict the head of a lion dance costume while its trim and exhaust pipes are finished in polished chrome for that upmarket appeal.

At the rear, it features a backrest with a 63-litre storage box storage that can be secured, along with panniers for its flanks.
