GWM Wey G9 luxury MPV previewed at GATE Expo 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The GWM Wey G9 luxury MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) was recently previewed at GATE (Global Automotive and Technology) Expo 2025, held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The Wey G9 will debut the Chinese automaker's Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive) system locally in early 2026.

The Hi4 technology integrates dual-motor 4WD capability with smart energy management to deliver both power and efficiency.

Developed through GWM’s global R&D (research and development) network, Hi4 balances electric and petrol power intelligently, and is billed as achieving "the performance of 4WD with the efficiency of 2WD (two-wheel drive)".

The system has been tested in extreme global conditions and suited for Malaysia’s unique roads, tropical climate, and diverse driving habits.

“Hi4 represents the next step in hybrid innovation. It is technology that makes powerful driving intelligent and efficiency effortless,” said GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi.

“With Hi4, we are not just showcasing technology. We are redefining how hybrid mobility feels — smart, smooth, and accessible to everyone," he added.

GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah said, "The GWM Wey G9 will redefine what premium hybrid mobility means for Malaysian families.”

“It brings together the best of both worlds - luxury and technology in a practical, reliable way and designed for our roads,” said Roslan,

The Wey G9 has already become a standout success in China, with sales exceeding 10,000 units in October 2025, making it a strong contender for the top MPV position across petrol, hybrid, and EV (electric vehicle) segments.

“Our commitment to Malaysia goes beyond products; it’s about building trust and long-term partnerships,” said Roslan.

“As we expand our dealer network and introduce new technologies, we want every Malaysian to experience a brand that cares, innovates, and delivers lasting value,” he added.

In a statement, GWM Malaysia said the company is advancing its localisation programme to strengthen local industry participation and create a more resilient supply chain.

GWM Malaysia is working closely with local vendors on component localisation, including seat modules, wiring harnesses, sub-frames, door trims and batteries, with future plans to localise parts such as exhaust systems, carpets and suspension assemblies.
