Harman unveils 'Ready Aware' service to enhance safety

BARCELONA: Automotive technology leader Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, rolled out its vehicle-to-cloud software service, Ready Aware, at MWC Barcelona 2025.

The new service is designed to enhance driver situational awareness by providing near real-time, contextually relevant alerts that warn of potential road hazards.

Targeting both new production and existing connected vehicles, Ready Aware is now available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across North America, Europe and India.

At its core, Ready Aware offers what Harman describes as “sight beyond sight” situational intelligence.

By leveraging a cloud-based analytics engine that employs digital twins and machine learning, the service delivers accurate alerts about road hazards, including objects on the road, stationary vehicles and unexpected congestion.

This system is capable of handling more than 15 distinct use cases and is the first production-ready solution to provide latency-sensitive alerts such as imminent hard braking scenarios.

According to Harman, the technology not only enhances drivers’ safety but also simplifies the in-cabin experience by automating alerts so that drivers can remain focused on the road.

The service is built with scalability and ease of deployment in mind. Its hardware agnostic design and compatibility with both 4G and 5G networks, as well as Android and Linux platforms, ensure that Ready Aware can be used in a wide range of vehicles.

The solution can be updated over-the-air (OTA) for existing connected vehicles, making it a cost-effective and future-proof investment for OEMs.

In an effort to bolster road safety, Harman has joined forces with HERE Technologies.

This partnership aims to further develop advanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) driver assistance systems that not only meet current Euro NCAP 2023 standards but are also aligned with the upcoming Euro NCAP 2026 driver assistance programmes.

The joint initiative will provide automotive manufacturers with enhanced capabilities to issue alerts related to accidents, stationary vehicles and wrong-way driving, thereby helping them address evolving safety challenges in an increasingly connected world.

Beyond Ready Aware, industry observers note that Harman’s unveiling at MWC Barcelona underscores a broader strategy of integrating connectivity with intelligent in-cabin systems.

Recent developments in the company’s portfolio have hinted at complementary technologies, including satellite-enabled telematics and emotionally responsive in-car interfaces, which signal a comprehensive approach to automotive innovation.

While Ready Aware remains the focus of this announcement, these additional advancements point to a future where vehicles are not only safer but also offer a richer, more intuitive user experience.
