Help pours in for family living in car

GEORGE TOWN: Financial help and donations are pouring in for security guard Ganesh Sounderajah's family, including from celebrity preacher Ebit Lew who is helping them secure a rented three-bedroom house.

Lew has also bought them new electrical appliances such as a refrigerator, television, rice cooker and other household items.

He drove from Johor Baru on Christmas morning, and is expected to move the family to the rented home.

The preacher also volunteered to pay a month's rent if Ganesh is successful in getting a people's housing project (PPR) unit.
"Ganesh and his wife were very grateful for the help and very emotional and in tears," said Lew in his Facebook posting on Dec 25.

He said as he slept well and ate well, and could not accept the fact that there were people living in a car.

Ganesh, 33 and his wife Parameswari, 32, and their three children, aged between eight months to six years, lost their home in a fire in April and have been living in a 30-year-old Proton Saga Aeroback since they could not afford a home.

Ganesh, when contacted, thanked the media for highlighting his plight. He said he had even received calls from overseas from people enquiring how they could help.

"I told them for now that all I wanted was a home where I could move in."
