Honda starts production of all-electric e:N1 SUV in Thailand

BANGKOK: Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co Ltd had started production of the all-electric e:N1 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

In a statement, the company said details of the launch of the Honda e:N1 will be released in the first quarter of 2024.

This also means Honda is the first major Japanese car brand to produce EV (electric vehicle) cars in Thailand.

In its Integrated Report 2023, Honda had stated that by 2030, its goal is to set up a global BEV (battery electric vehicle) production system that produces over 2 million units annually.

Honda wants 100% of its global sales to comprise EVs and FCVs (fuel cell electric vehicles) by 2040.

Honda said it will introduce BEVs tailored to each regional characteristics, starting 2024.

In North America, the Japanese automaker has the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, developed in collaboration with General Motors (GM); in China, the e:NS2, e:NP2 and mass-production models based on the e:N SUV concept; and in Japan, a commercial-use mini-EV model based on the N-VAN.

In the Asian region, Honda will launch two compact EVs, including an SUV model, in 2026.

Meanwhile, Honda has introduced the EM1 e: electric scooter in Japan, equipped with the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: portable and swappable battery.
