KUALA LUMPUR: Hongqi, China’s historic and prestigious luxury automotive brand, is set to launch in Malaysia after the Quill Group of Companies inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with First Automotive Works (FAW) Group.
The Quill Group will have exclusive rights as the official importer and completely knocked down (CKD) distributor for Hongqi.
Under this MoU, Quill Group will serve as the strategic partner and master distributor, spearheading the importation, local CKD assembly, and the appointment of authorised dealerships across the nation.
This strategic partnership paves the way for Hongqi to establish a presence in Malaysia’s ultra-luxury and premium electric vehicle (EV) market.
Hongqi, which translates to "Red Flag," is historically renowned as the official vehicle for Chinese state leaders and stands as a symbol of national automotive pride.
Produced by FAW Group, China’s pioneer automotive company established by the central government, the brand is slated for an official launch in the Malaysian market by mid-2026.
Quill Group group managing director Datuk Dr Jennifer Low said the group is immensely proud to be entrusted with introducing Hongqi to Malaysia.
"It is a uniquely special brand with a storied legacy, favoured by leaders and recognised globally for its uncompromising quality.
"With Malaysia's robust bilateral relationship with China established since 1974, it is fitting that we are chosen as one of the premier right-hand drive markets for Hongqi’s strategic expansion," she said.
"By leveraging Quill Group's extensive corporate expertise and commitment to excellence, we will bolster consumer confidence through comprehensive marketing programmes, uncompromising full-service after-sales support, and seamless parts availability.
"Our goal is to ensure a highly successful and prestigious entry for Hongqi, catering specifically to the expanding demand for premium and ultra-luxury vehicles," she said.
FAW Group currently exports Hongqi vehicles to over 87 countries and regions worldwide, including Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
