Hyundai Ioniq 5 N prepares for Pikes Peak challenge

LOS ANGELES: Hyundai is set to compete in the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on June 23, with a four-car team including two 641hp Ioniq 5 N vehicles aimed at breaking the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record.

Hyundai N brand and motorsport head Till Wartenberg emphasised the Ioniq 5 N's high performance capabilities, continuing Hyundai’s tradition of testing new technologies at Pikes Peak, a practice dating back to 1992.

The Ioniq 5 N drivers for the record attempt include veteran Paul Dallenbach, an 11-time PPIHC winner who set an overall record in 1993, and rookie Ron Zaras, a former Hoonigan executive and media personality.

Additionally, Hyundai will introduce a modified Ioniq 5 N for competition at both Pikes Peak and the upcoming ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, driven by Dani Sordo, a Spanish World Rally Championship driver, and Robin Shute, a four-time Pikes Peak overall winner.

The Ioniq 5 N features extensive racing enhancements including WRC-inspired axles, advanced thermal management, N-tuned brakes, and a significant regenerative braking force.

Minor modifications for compliance include a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, Sabelt six-point harness, a roll cage, and fire suppression, with the rear seats removed.

The vehicle retains its standard features, showcasing its racetrack readiness with future aesthetic updates planned.
