Hyundai Mobis expands Indian R&D centre to boost software development

SEOUL: Hyundai Mobis has opened an integrated research and development (R&D) centre in Hyderabad, India, consolidating its two existing facilities into a single large base.

The move aims to strengthen the company's role as a global hub for automotive software development.

Located in Hyderabad's commercial district, the 10-storey centre spans 24,000 square metres and comes with research labs, data centres, training rooms, and collaborative spaces. Its proximity to major tech firms facilitates access to skilled talent.

India’s automotive market, currently the third-largest globally with annual sales of 5.2 million vehicles, is projected to grow to 6.2 million by 2028.

Hyundai Mobis is targeting this expanding market by focusing on software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and advanced features such as autonomous driving systems and large displays.

The company plans to enhance its R&D capabilities by increasing early-stage involvement in product development and leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline productivity.

The new centre will work with local software firms and continue hiring skilled personnel to develop cost-effective, high-performance solutions for global carmakers.

Hyundai Mobis aims to establish the facility as a strategic hub for innovation in automotive software, addressing the growing demand for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and electric vehicle technologies.

Globally, Hyundai Mobis operates R&D centres in Korea, China, Germany, and the United States. It plans to open a semiconductor-focused centre in Silicon Valley this year to complement its existing North American facility in Detroit.

These centres collectively drive advancements in autonomous driving technologies and other next-generation automotive solutions.
