Hyundai Motor Malaysia launches the Staria, Tucson and Santa Fe


KUALA LUMPUR:  Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY), the newly-minted dealer principal for the South Korean brand, has officially launched the facelifted Staria and Tucson as well as the new fifth-generation Santa Fe.

The inaugural lineup by HMY will be offered as full-imported units until the Inokom assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah comes online for local assembly duties sometime in the third quarter this year.

Currently, HMY is providing the models with an eight-year or 160,000km warranty that includes four free scheduled maintenance.

To entice new buyers, the first 100 customers who purchase a new Hyundai vehicle will be entitled to eight free scheduled services instead.

Staria

The Staria multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was presented in four variants, starting with the 10-seater Style that's been priced on-the-road without insurance at RM179,888 and is followed by the Prime at RM196,888, the Prestige at RM209,888 and finally the range-topping seven-seater Prestige at RM267,888.

Power comes from a familiar 2.2-litre (2,199cc) turbodiesel mill that provides 177PS and 430Nm of torque.

An eight-speed automatic transmission manages power delivery to the front 17-inch wheels.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, antilock braking system, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill-start assist, multi-collision brake and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Additionally, the Advanced Driver Aids System (ADAS) includes a rear-view monitor and safe exit warning.

The 10-seater Prime variant now gets powered-sliding doors, a larger 10.25-inch TFT instrument cluster display, Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and a Surround View Monitor (SVM) system.

Moving to the 10-seater Prestige variant means upsizing the wheels to 18 inches.

The seven-seater Prestige variant has a Shift-by-Wire push-button gear selector, dual sunroof with power-adjustable tilting and sliding (front), second-row premium relaxation seats with eight-way adjustability and leg support, heated and ventilated seats for the front and second rows, LED Ambient Mood Lighting system among others.

Tucson

The facelifted B-segment Tucson SUV was also made available in four variants with the entry-level 2.0 Style at RM143,888, 1.6T Prime at RM164,888, 1.6T Prestige at RM186,888 and the HEV Prestige at RM197,888.

The interior is in Black Mono and Pattern Insert Film, while the range-topping Prestige variant gets Moss Gray.

The Style variant uses a standard 2.0-litre (1,999cc) naturally-aspirated engine producing 156PS and 192Nm while mated to a six-speed automatic. A 12V lithium-ion battery is used to power up the auxiliaries and starter motor.

The Prime variant upgrades the powertrain to a 1.6-litre (1,598cc) T-GDi engine producing 180PS and 264Nm and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Also included are Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Forward Collision-avoidance Assist with car, pedestrian and cyclist detection, junction turning and direct oncoming.

The Prestige variant, which now gets AWD, projector headlights with Intelligent Front Lighting System, 19-inch wheels, memory settings for driver's seat and external mirrors and a 12.3-inch colour TFT-LCD instrument cluster.

The final HEV Prestige variant gets a hybrid system that throws in a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery to power an electric motor that supplements the engine (mated to a six-speed automatic) with 47.7kW and 264Nm of torque.

This brings the total system output to 235PS and 367Nm of torque.

Santa Fe

Available in three variants, the Santa Fe range starts with the HEV Prime at RM225,000, while the mid-range HEV Prestige goes for RM245,000 and the range-topping 2.5T Calligraphy gets tagged at RM270,000.

The Santa Fe is now bigger with a wheelbase of 2,815mm (+65mm), length of 4,830mm (+45mm), width of 1,900mm and height of 1,720mm (+35mm). The Calligraphy is taller at 1,780mm.

As standard, a 1.6-litre (1,598cc) Smartstream turbocharged Gasoline Direct-injected (T-GDi) engine produces 180PS and 265Nm of torque and gets an electric motor that produces 44.2kW and 264Nm - bringing its total system output to 235PS (+5PS) and 367Nm of torque.

Powering the electric motor is a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery while a six-speed automatic transmission and 18-inch wheels are used.

For safety, the Santa Fe is equipped with 10 airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, downhill brake control, brake assist, hill-start assist, multi-collision braking system, vehicle stability management and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Also included are high beam assist, lane following assist, lane keeping assist and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, safe exit assist, rear occupant alert, smart cruise control with stop and go function, as well as a rear view monitor.

The Prestige variant is upgraded with larger 20-inch wheels and gets a memory function for the driver's seat (two positions), and this includes the exterior mirrors' positions, and a heads-up display.

The flagship Calligraphy, which now only seats six, has a more powerful 2.5-litre (2,497cc) T-Di powerplant delivering 281PS and 422Nm of torque.

An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission manages power delivery to the Hyundai TRACtion (HTRAC) all-wheel-drive system.
