LONDON: Nissan GB has updated its mid-engined Micra 350SR to mark the model’s 23rd anniversary, ahead of the launch of the new Micra EV.
Originally built in 2002 by the team behind Nissan’s 1990s British Touring Car campaign, the Micra 350SR was designed to showcase the K12 platform’s versatility and pay tribute to Nissan’s racing heritage.
The refreshed car retains its 3.5-litre Murano engine, complete with 350Z headers, Nismo high-lift cams and a tuned ECU that raises output from 265hp to about 300hp.
With a kerb weight of just 1,200kg, the 350SR delivers brisk acceleration. Nissan GB has kept the mechanical package unchanged but has fitted modern components to improve reliability and usability.
Design work was handled by Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, the same studio behind the Micra EV and the Concept 20-23 show car.
To respect the 350SR’s history, the designers applied a light-restomod touch: a satin ‘"liquid silver" base coat is offset by blue highlights and new graphics based on Nissan’s "=III 23" motif, seen on the latest Micra and LEAF models.
These graphics draw inspiration from the rear lamps of the 300ZX.
Gloss-black elements include the grille, lower body panels and the refurbished 18-inch RAYS alloys originally fitted to the 350Z. LED headlights with semi-circular daytime running lights provide a contemporary look and enhanced road illumination.
Inside, the cabin gains new seats with racing harnesses and a nine-inch touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
While the upgraded audio system enables streaming, Nissan advises drivers to enjoy music only when stationary, given the engine’s distinctive sound profile.
The updated Micra 350SR makes its public debut at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ Test Day today at Millbrook Proving Ground, the same venue used during the car’s original development.
