KUALA LUMPUR: Mobile roadblocks will be used in addition to permanent roadblocks to discourage travel during the full lockdown which starts nationwide on Tuesday.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said there will be about 800 roadblocks in place nationwide.

“Around two-thirds will be permanent roadblocks while the rest will be mobile ones.

"The district police will also identify areas and lanes used for travel and close them if needed.

“We will also increase spot checks outside the city due to the rate of compliance there being lower, ” he told a press conference today.

He reiterated that unlike the first MCO, no curfew will be enforced.

“However, since all businesses must close by 8pm, people shouldn’t have a reason to be out. Our objective is to discourage unimportant movement, ” he said.

The IGP noted that traffic jams at roadblocks will be unavoidable.

“I advise the public to prepare their utility bills to prove their home residence to make things smoother during checks.

“All travel permission will also be scrutinised and we will do a more thorough check at roadblocks, ” he said.

He added that manpower on the ground will also be increased, with 15,000 more personnel being deployed from other agencies to assist the police.
