IM Motors in Australia: Debut OTA Beta upgrade, inaugural customer event

SYDNEY: IM Motors in Australia recently announced its debut over-the-air (OTA) Beta upgrade.

IM Motors is a joint venture by SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group and ZJ Hi-Tech to design, develop and produce high-end electric cars.

Since its introduction to Australia, IM presented by MG Motor has cultivated a strong community of owners.

15 lucky IM owners became the first in Australia to receive the initial round of the OTA Beta, allowing these early adopters to experience the latest vehicle software updates ahead of the national release.

The OTA Beta testing will see enhanced and refined features introduced based on customer feedback.

This upgrade took place as part of the inaugural “IMmersive Day”, an exclusive event hosted by IM Motors at Royal Randwick for a select group of Sydney-based owners.

The advanced intelligent cockpit offered a first look at OTA Beta functionalities such as Rainy Night Mode enhancements.

Participants tested the enhancements that elevate both safety and convenience.

With more IM owners eager for the OTA Beta benefits, a second round will be rolled out to these volunteer owners over coming weeks.

These upgrades are part of the OTA update which will roll out nationally for all Australian IM5 and IM6 owners and will be formally announced at the April 2026 Melbourne Motor Show on April 10.

The IMmersive Day also gave these lucky IM owners exclusive access to controlled track experiences, allowing them to fully explore the capabilities of the IM digital chassis.

IM’s digital chassis is a software-driven vehicle control system that centrally coordinates braking, steering, suspension and stability rather than running them as separate mechanical systems.

Powered by a high-speed computing platform, it continuously analyses sensor data to predict and correct instability in real time, improving safety, handling, comfort and manoeuvrability.

Attendees undertook acceleration testing, emergency braking simulations, and extreme handling challenges, gaining an intimate appreciation of the chassis’ dynamic control, steering precision, and stability.

These exercises demonstrated the engineering strength and technological capabilities underpinning every IM vehicle.

The IMmersive Day at Sydney’s Royal Randwick was IM Motors inaugural customer event, providing owners with a chance to connect directly with the brand, engineering, and software teams.

IM is a brand eager for dialogue with its owners and drivers.

These events ensure IM owners’ experiences, feedback and learning are heard first hand by the IM global development team.

Based on the overwhelming positive feedback from owners, IM will host additional IMmersive Day events in various cities in Australia throughout 2026.
