Impose tyre monitoring system in heavy vehicles to prevent accidents, says Niosh
By BERNAMA | 27 December 2024KUALA LUMPUR: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) has called for the mandatory use of monitoring technologies such as the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and telematics in all heavy vehicles to detect mechanical issues promptly.
Its vice-chairman, Manivanan Gowin, said that these technologies could provide an early warning of potential damage that might endanger lives.
"It’s time for us to use technological advancements to improve road safety,” he said in a statement on Thursday in response to the tragic crash at KM 204 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in Melaka that resulted in seven fatalities. Five of them were family members.
Manivanan said Niosh was also willing to offer its experts to help the relevant authorities and agencies in identifying issues and finding solutions.
