PETALING JAYA: Isuzu Malaysia ended 2022 with record-breaking performance, chalking up 9,211 units in sales of the amazing Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck, a few tens shy of doubling the numbers the company achieved in 2021.

The stellar performance sets a new record for the company with an all-time high, eclipsing the previous record of 6,480 units sold in 2016.

The impressive performance was spurred by huge interest in the 1.9-litre variants that have proven to be unbelievably light on running costs yet a heavyweight when it comes to design, features, performance and safety.

Making up 79% of the total portfolio, the 1.9-litre variants have been the prime choice of Malaysians, particularly those in Peninsular Malaysia where 55% of the pick-up trucks are sold.

Significantly, the flagship X-Terrain variant made inroads into the upper echelon of the premium lifestyle segment despite being the relative newcomer.

A total 877 units were delivered to customers who gushed over the model’s handsome design, invitingly-premium interior, exemplary performance and cutting-edge safety features.

Isuzu Malaysia chief executive officer Shunsuke Okazoe said the third-generation D-Max pick-up truck had achieved extraordinary heights in terms of market penetration despite facing stock limitations from the factory.

“Thanks to its exceptional design and future-looking features, the latest generation D-Max brings new levels of driving comfort and performance without losing any inherent Isuzu family traits.

“It is a true representation of a modern day pick-up truck,” said Okazoe.

Unsurprisingly, the appeal of the new third-generation D-Max not only impressed owners but the discerning automotive media as well.

Numerous reviewers have awarded not only the top-of-the-line X-Terrain but various other models of the D-Max as well with the title of ‘Pick-up Truck of the Year’.

With every model across the board boasting the top Asean ANCAP 5-star safety rating, the D-Max range offers exceptional peace of mind, no more so than the X-Terrain variant that further comes with a ground-breaking 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Isuzu Malaysia chief operating officer Kenkichi Sogo said the company's focus for this year would be to ensure that its customer experience remains positive as it aimed to reduce the delivery times and to enhance network.

“I wish to thank all our customers for their support and patience and also our partners who have helped us rise to the top despite the challenges faced in the supply of vehicles,” said Sogo.

Isuzu has a wide selection of variants to meet the needs and applications of every pick-up truck user, ranging from the highly versatile Single Cab to the exceptionally economical 4X2 Automatic Double Cab, 4X4 models and the game-changing X-Terrain.
