PETALING JAYA: The growing appeal of Isuzu Malaysia's D-Max pick-up truck lineup has enabled the model to reach a new record market share of 18.3% in the first quarter of the year.
Previously, the model accounted for 14.0% of the market share in the corresponding period of 2024.
Isuzu Malaysia had attributed the award-winning D-Max's new milestone to the model's excellent performance, superior fuel economy and clockwork reliability.
Securely as the second top-selling pick-up truck model in the country, the D-Max’s popularity has risen at a time when diesel vehicles have begun facing higher operating costs due to pricier diesel at pumps in Peninsular Malaysia.
Isuzu Malaysia chief operating officer Kenkichi Sogo said more drivers are beginning to discover the merits of owning and driving the D-Max.

Sogo.
"Not only do they purchase a versatile vehicle that has far-reaching capabilities for their daily use and leisure, the D-Max’s exceptionally low running cost, superior dependability and cheap road tax ensure that customers still come out with a winning hand," he said.
While East Malaysia has traditionally been a "fixed deposit" for Isuzu Malaysia where it commands a healthy 28.4% of the market in states like Sabah, sales in Peninsular Malaysia has seen a sharp rise from a 12.1% market share in 2024 to 17.1% this year.
The company also said all top three D-Max variants sold by Isuzu Malaysia feature the impressively-capable 1.9-litre engine.
The 1.9-litre 4x4 Auto Premium, 1.9-litre 4x4 Auto Standard and 1.9-litre 4x2 Auto Plus collectively make up 72.7% of total sales.
Isuzu Malaysia added that the model's hard-to-beat fuel efficiency, numerous class-leading features, handsome design, exceptionally low running costs, an impressive five-year warranty and an annual road tax of under RM400 in Peninsular Malaysia, were among the reasons for the D-Max's appeal.
