PETALING JAYA: Isuzu Malaysia's share in the pick-up segment has risen by three percentage points to 17.3% in the second quarter of 2026 due to the appeal of its new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers higher performance, refinement and fuel economy.
The company said its top selling variant in the lineup is the new 2.2-litre Standard 4x4 Auto variant that makes up 36% of D-Max sales.
Following the launch of the new 2026 D-Max range in March, Isuzu has one of the widest selection of pick-up truck variants in the market with ten variants to choose from.
The new 2.2-litre powerplant that supersedes the highly-popular 1.9-litre powerplant and offers a new dynamic driving character while offering improved refinement, response and fuel economy while being compliant with the highest Euro 5 emission standards.
The new engine also gets a highly responsive 8-speed automatic transmission designed specifically to optimise the performance characteristics of the new block.
In addition, the D-Max series also offers Malaysia’s first Single Cab pick-up truck variant with an automatic transmission and 4x4 drivetrain which has accounted for 60% of D-Max single cab sales.
Isuzu Malaysia chief executive officer Tomoyuki Yamaguchi said the traditionally-renowned capabilities of the D-Max is now combined with a new suite of performance benefits to deliver a superior overall package.
According to Isuzu Malaysia’s Light Commercial Vehicle Division chief operating officer Kenichi Kudo, the new powerhouse sets new benchmarks in every aspect ranging from fuel efficiency, power, quietness and emissions.
"That’s why we don’t hesitate to call it our 'Best Engine Ever'," said Kudo.
