Jaecoo J5 SHS-H to launch in Australia in 2026

WUHU, China: The SHS-H (Super Hybrid System – HEV) variant of the Jaecoo J5 will join the petrol and EV J5 variants in Aussie showrooms later in 2026.

Unlike the J7 and Omoda 9 SHS, which utilises a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the J5 SHS-H features a series-parallel hybrid setup.

This features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, which delivers a total system output of 165kW (224PS).

Expected to offer a combined range of 980km, it will balance powerful performance with low energy consumption.

The J5 SHS-H comes with an impressive 1.45 sq metre panoramic sunroof, a large array of storage options along with a generous boot and a pet-friendly interior.

During Chery’s recent International Business Summit (IBS), Jaecoo conducted a “9 Countries Super Hybrid Marathon” HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) endurance test, to showcase its latest Super Hybrid cars.

Leading the test was the J5 hybrid, which covered 625km over different driving conditions.

Testing the SUV’s real-world efficiency, media from all over the world (including Australia and New Zealand) took part in the long-distance drive getting a firsthand experience of the J5 hybrid.
