Japan Mobility Show 2025: Daihatsu K-Open concept

TOKYO: At Japan Mobility Show 2025, Daihatsu debuted its Daihatsu K-Open (Copen) compact roadster concept, which has a rear-wheel drive, front-engine layout.

Toyota Motor Corp president and CEO Koji Sato said, "Achieving rear-wheel drive in a front-engine car with such a compact body is truly incredible."

"You need to place the engine low, carefully package the transmission and propeller shaft, and design the pedal layout so that everything fits perfectly into this body," he added.

At the autoshow, Daihatsu's theme is “Daihatsumei for me. Invented for you. Small but capable. Do it all step by step.”

Daihatsu said the Copen concept, with its small size, "lets you feel the light comfort of open-air driving up close while enjoying its unique driving performance."
