Jetour G700: PHEV off-roader, serious hardware, premium cabin

BEIJING: Positioned as a flagship lifestyle SUV that combines traditional all-terrain hardware with electrified performance and a high-spec cabin, the Jetour G700 is designed to appeal to buyers who want genuine off-road capability without sacrificing space, comfort and in-car technology.

Rugged design with functional geometry

The G700 adopts Jetour’s GAIA off-road design language, said to be inspired by the Himalayas and developed by a former Land Rover designer.

It features a squared-off, upright stance and is offered in six exterior colours with scratch-resistant silicon oxide nano-particle paint.

It measures 5,198mm long, 2,050mm wide and 1,956mm tall, with a 2,870mm wheelbase.

Off-road geometry includes a 35-degree approach angle, 28-degree departure angle and 21-degree breakover angle, along with a maximum gradeability of 45 degrees.

With the air suspension raised by 90mm, approach and departure angles increase to over 40 and 32 degrees respectively, while ground clearance reaches at least 230mm.

Ladder frame, triple diff locks and 970mm wading depth

Unlike many monocoque SUVs in this segment, the G700 uses a hydroformed ladder-frame chassis.

Jetour says high-strength steel accounts for 99.9% of the structure, with torsional stiffness rated at 10,000Nm/degree.

Off-road hardware is comprehensive. Triple locking differentials are standard, supported by a virtual centre lock system that adjusts torque distribution in real time.

The SUV also offers:

  • Up to 970mm wading depth
  • Low-range (4L) mode for sand, mud and snow
  • Hill Descent Control
  • Automatic cross-axle mode
  • A tight-turn function that reduces turning radius by around 30%
  • An X-Terrain mode uses camera input and vehicle data to recognise surfaces and adapt driving parameters accordingly.

In China, the range-topping G700 Submersible Supreme Navigation Edition also offers an amphibious capability, equipped with specialised military-grade turbo thrusters for water propulsion and an IP68-rated waterproof body.

665kW hybrid system, 0–100kph in 4.6 seconds

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid setup combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, a longitudinal 2DHT transmission and a two-speed electric motor.

Total system output is rated at 665kW (904PS) and 1,135Nm, enabling a claimed 0–100kph time of 4.6 seconds.

The hybrid system focuses on efficiency as well, with engine thermal efficiency of up to 45.5% and fuel consumption as low as 8.8 litres per 100km under low battery conditions.

Energy is stored in a 34.13kWh battery supplied by CATL. Jetour says the battery is designed for off-road durability, with continuous safety monitoring and resistance to extreme heat and water exposure.

Six-seat layout, focus on comfort

Inside, the G700 is configured as a six-seater with three rows.

A theatre-style layout aims to improve visibility for all occupants, while second-row seats can recline up to 145 degrees.

Cabin practicality includes 39 storage compartments and up to 2,104 litres of cargo space in a five-seat configuration.

Key features include:

  • Ventilated, heated and massaging seats
  • Passenger seat with fold-out table and extendable leg rest
  • Panoramic sunroof measuring 1,420mm by 980mm
  • Tri-zone climate control with air purification

Jetour also highlights the use of low-emission interior materials, along with CN95-grade filtration and UVC sterilisation.

Multi-screen cockpit and 18-speaker audio

  • The G700 features a multi-screen layout, including:
  • 15.6-inch central touchscreen
  • 35.4-inch digital display along the dashboard
  • 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen
  • 8.88-inch rear climate control panel

The system runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 chip and supports four-zone voice control, allowing passengers to operate functions independently.

Audio is handled by an 18-speaker Lexicon system with a 900W amplifier.

ADAS, battery protection, lifestyle features

Driver assistance includes Level 2 ADAS functions such as lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and traffic jam assist, along with automated parking.

The battery pack features an aluminium protective structure designed to withstand impacts and extreme conditions, including a 4.9m drop test and direct fire exposure.

For outdoor use, the G700 offers:

  • 6.6kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) power supply
  • 2.5-tonne towing capacity
  • Power-retractable side steps and a powered tailgate

Possible Malaysia launch

Jetour Malaysia has yet to confirm the availability, variants, and pricing for Malaysia but some reports indicate a launch in 2027.

However, based on its specifications, the G700 is positioned as a rival to large, premium off-road SUVs, combining traditional mechanical capability with electrified performance and a high level of cabin equipment.  - Zachary Ho
