JPJ conducting special operations focusing on motorcyclists

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched a nationwide, two-month special operation focused on motorcyclists.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the operation will focus on eight main offences, namely riding without a valid licence, motor vehicle license or insurance coverage and ignoring traffic light signals.

Also under scrutiny are unauthorised bike modifications, not wearing crash helmets and illegal racing.

He said the police had recorded alarming statistics about the increase of fatal accidents, especially involving motorcycles.

"The target is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to road accidents using a focused enforcement strategy to monitor, detect and take action against riders or motorcycle owners who fail to comply with stipulated regulations," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 1).

Aedy Fadly said road users, especially motorcycle riders or pillion riders, should always adhere to the laws and regulations and be tolerant of other road users.
