Kia and LG forge PBV alliance

SEOUL: Kia and LG Electronics have announced plans to jointly develop "mobility space solutions" based on Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technology.

Two concept models were shown at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show last week that integrate advanced home appliances into Kia’s PBVs, creating mobile work and recreational spaces.

Kia said its PBV technology would combine with LG’s expertise in artificial intelligence and home appliances.

The joint effort aims to offer users customised space that can be adapted to suit various lifestyles and work needs, enabling the vehicle to be transformed into a personalised office, studio, lounge or similar environment.

At the event, two distinct concept models, the Spielraum Studio and the Spielraum Glow cabin, were showcased.

The Spielraum Studio concept is designed for solo entrepreneurs and frequent travellers who require a versatile workspace with ample storage.

This model features LG’s AI-powered home appliances, including its modular Styler, smart mirrors, and coffee machines, all integrated into the vehicle’s interior.

The AI system is capable of monitoring the user’s business schedule, calculating the remaining travel time, and recommending optimal appliance settings.

The Spielraum Glow cabin concept, on the other hand, caters to the growing trend of car picnics.

It includes appliances such as refrigerators, lightwave ovens, and wine cellars, each fitted with MoodUP panels that can adjust the colour of the appliances to suit the user’s mood or preference.

The companies have announced plans to bring these concept models to market in the second half of 2026.

This partnership is expected to result in further joint development in the fields of advanced home appliances and AI solutions, with the aim of streamlining and enhancing everyday tasks.
