Kia sheds more light on EV3
By CARSIFU | 12 September 2024SEOUL: The Kia EV3 made its global debut in May and features a WLTP driving range of up to 598km and supports fast charging.
The vehicle will initially be available in two-wheel drive (2WD) models, with plans to release all-wheel drive (AWD) and GT variants in the future.
The EV3 aims to simplify the transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric models. It incorporates advanced regenerative braking systems, including the i-Pedal and Smart Regenerative technologies.
The i-Pedal system allows drivers to manage regenerative braking levels from 0 to 3, offering increased control and efficiency. Level 3 is suitable for heavy traffic, while Level 1 and 0 provide smoother deceleration for long drives and coasting.
The Smart Regenerative System, a first for Kia, uses autonomous technology to automatically adjust braking based on road conditions. By holding the right-hand steering wheel paddle, drivers can activate the system, which uses sensors to adjust speed for curves, speed bumps, and other obstacles, enhancing safety and comfort.
To address concerns about electric vehicle (EV) range, Kia equipped the EV3 with the largest battery in its class, ensuring a best-in-class range of 372 miles.
Aerodynamic improvements contribute to this efficiency, including a drag coefficient of 0.26Cd achieved through optimized wheel shapes, body design, and underbody enhancements.
Kia has also introduced the ‘Driving Range Guide,’ a feature in the instrument cluster that provides real-time information on driving efficiency and range potential. This guide helps drivers maximise their vehicle’s range through efficient driving practices.
The EV3 incorporates advanced heat management and rapid charging capabilities. Its simultaneous heat absorption system and high-thermal-efficiency sheath heater improve battery performance in cold conditions.
The EV3 charges from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes, up to 12 minutes faster than previous Kia models.
Additionally, the EV3 features a compact THIN HVAC system that enhances cabin space and comfort.
Kia is the first to offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology in the compact SUV segment, allowing users to power external devices like laptops and small appliances even when off-grid.
