KLIMS 2026: Honda Prelude launches at a competitive RM278,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia's hottest coupe hybrid yet glides into the local scene by defying value expectations.

The sixth generation Prelude enters the market at a competitive price of RM278,000, which is below the anticipated RM300,000 mark as well as the higher end of the RM200,000 bar.

For reference, many had anticipated that the model would be priced higher than a Civic Type-R which is the case in certain markets including Japan itself.

A value proposition made even more attractive with Honda Malaysia's newly introduced 10-year warranty with unlimited mileage for their hybrid battery and components.

Speaking at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2026), Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Narushi Yazaki commented that hybrid technology continues to be one of the most realistic and effective pathways toward environmental sustainability, while delivering the performance, convenience, and driving enjoyment that customers expect.

"We have already turned this vision to life through our extensive e:HEV lineup, which today spans across our sedan, hatchback, and SUV segments. With the introduction of the all-new Prelude, we further strengthen our commitment to this journey.

"The Prelude serves as a symbol of how hybrid technology can enhance driving enjoyment while preserving the emotional connection that has always defined Honda vehicles,” he added.

Developed as a modern grand tourer, the Prelude houses Honda’s advanced 2.0L e:HEV powertrain that delivers 184PS and 315Nm of torque.

Accompanying it is the debut of S+ Shift Technology which is a first in Honda Malaysia’s lineup.

What it does is that it supposedly, precisely controls engine RPM during acceleration and deceleration to deliver a more direct drive response and sharper gear-shifting feel for enhanced hybrid performance.

By extension it seamlessly synchronizes responsive power delivery, Active Sound Control (ASC), and dynamic visual displays on the Power Meter to create an immersive and engaging driving experience by strengthening the connection between the car and the driver.

The technology comes in addition to three other drive modes that are Sport, GT, and Comfort.

Further personalisation of drive experience can be had as drivers are allowed to customise key settings such as the powertrain, steering, suspension, meter display, and engine sound via the Individual Mode, enabling a driving experience tailored to their personal preferences.

Also for first time in a Honda model is Coasting Control Operation which is an innovative feature that allows the car to decelerate smoothly. This is said to alleviate the driver's burden by reducing the need to constantly switch between the brake and accelerator pedals.

Raising the Prelude's performance credential is the adoption of key chassis technologies from the Type R. This includes a dual-axis strut front suspension and Adaptive Damper System, while also featuring Agile Handling Assist (AHA).

Accompanying its sleek design on the exterior is a black chrome grille, LED headlights, LED rear combi lights with red lens, flush door outer handles, distinctive blue accents on the lower centre of the front and rear bumpers, and 19-inch aluminium wheels that house bold blue Brembo brake callipers.

Its glide-design inspired cockpit features a 9-inch Advanced Display Audio with Google Built-in that offers Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play connectivity; a Bose Premium Sound System; cargo capacity that easily accommodates two medium-sized suitcases; and dedicated front seats for both driver and passenger - sports-bucket for the driver while the passenger gets one that is more tailored for comfort and easy entry-exit.

The full range of Honda Sensing suite is also present.

Three colour options are available to the Prelude: Winter Frost Pearl, Rallye Red, and Crystal Black Pearl.
