Lamborghini Huracan STO to roll on custom Bridgestone tyres

TOKYO: Bridgestone has been selected by Lamborghini to be the tyre supplier of the Lamborghini Huracan STO (Super Trofeo Omologato).

The partnership will see the Japanese tyremaker provide the Huracan STO - due to arrive in 2021, with customer-developed tyres.

Bridgestone claims that it has developed a tailor-made Potenza tyre capable of maximising the Huracán STO’s potential in terms of traction, handling and performance thanks to a recent collaboration.

The key aspects lie in the combination of the tyre's pattern and cavity design - including an asymmetric tread design that's said to aid steering response and cornering stability.

The internal crown structure helps to distribute the tyre's footprint pressure evenly during cornering.

These features, combined with a newly developed tread compound for better grip, help
to bring the Huracan STO’s track-level performance to road users.

Both Lamborghini and Bridgestone combined their efforts in the virtual realm during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This allowed Bridgestone to test several tyre combinations in its virtual environment before integrating the tyre behaviour in the vehicle’s system to find the ideal match within Lamborghini's virtual driving simulator.

In addition to the road-going tyres, Bridgestone says that a track-oriented road-homologated version of the tyre for dry conditions will also be in development.

“The Huracán STO is an incredible piece of engineering that deserves a custom tyre that can fulfil its full potential," said Bridgestone EMIA vice president (Consumer Replacement OE) Steven De Bock.
