Lancia unveils new Ypsilon as mild hybrid and electric variants


TURIN: Lancia has unveiled the new Ypsilon line-up, featuring three trim levels: the Ypsilon, aimed at younger customers; the high-spec Ypsilon LX; and the comfort-focused Ypsilon Edizione Cassina.

All versions are available in hybrid or 100% electric models.

The Ypsilon focuses on driving pleasure, user-friendly technology, electrification, and timeless elegance. It leads the B premium hatchback segment with advanced lighting, parking assist, a 10.25-inch display, and Level 2 autonomous driving as standard.

Lancia's European expansion will begin in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, followed by Spain, France, and Germany by 2025, supported by over 70 new dealers.

Future models include the Gamma in 2026 and the Delta in 2028.

The electric Ypsilon, supported by Free2move Charge, offers convenient private and public charging solutions across Europe.

The new model is designed for urban ease and handling, featuring the multi-energy Common Modular Platform (CMP) suitable for electric and hybrid engines.

The car emphasises onboard well-being, sound quality, production quality, and driving pleasure.

It includes soundproofing, improved door gaskets, and redesigned handles for a robust feel.

Lancia said production quality would be upheld through staff training, equipment, and processes to meet premium standards.

The Ypsilon's wheel track has been widened for better handling, and the steering and suspension have been optimised for precision and comfort.

It integrates technology seamlessly, featuring S.A.L.A. (Sound Air Light Augmentation) for an intuitive infotainment system. The S.A.L.A. system includes audio, climate control, and lighting adjustments.

The car boasts a customised audio system, high-efficiency air conditioning, and customisable interior lighting. Additional features include massaging and heated seats, keyless entry, parking assist, and a dual screen display.

The electric Ypsilon has a 156-hp motor and a 51-kWh battery, offering a range of up to 403km in the WLTP cycle and fast charging capabilities.

The hybrid version features a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine with 100hp and and 48V hybrid technology, achieving low emissions and efficient performance. It includes six-speed e-DCT automatic transmission and electronic driving aids.

With a top speed of 190kph, acceleration from 0 to 100 in 9 seconds and extremely low emissions, the model is positioned as the best mild hybrid in its class in terms of efficiency and performance, capable of guaranteeing electric driving for 25% of its range.
