LONDON: It's almost time. Come July 6, Lotus will unveil the Emira, its last internal combustion engined (ICE) sports car before it goes all-electric in 2028.
It's also the first all-new model in 12 years from Lotus.
We last wrote about the Emira in April. The name "Emira" means "commander" in a number of ancient languages.
The mid-engined premium sports car will be built in a new factory at Hethel, Norfolk.

The site has been rejuvenated as part of a £100 millon (RM578mil) investment in Lotus’ UK operations. Lotus is now owned by China's Geely and Malaysia's Etika Automotive, a company controlled by tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar al-Bukhary.
The Emira is based on Lotus’s lightweight aluminium Sports Car platform known as Elemental, which is a heavily revised version of the Evora’s, with styling cues taken from the all-electric Evija hypercar. The Evija is set to go into production later this year and only 130 units would be made.
The Emira could receive a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine from a new partner as rumoured. But it could keep it safe by sticking with Toyota’s 3.5-litre V6. We will know tomorrow.
The event will be broadcast live online at www.lotuscars.com and on Lotus’ YouTube and Facebook channels from 7.30pm BST on July 6 (2.30am the next day in Malaysia).
