Lazada Malaysia working with Miros to expand use of child seats

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia has signed an agreement with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) to raise awareness on the importance of child seats in reducing road fatalities.

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Lazada Malaysia has launched its car seat assurance programme, which vets such products on its online mall, LazMall, to ensure they meet the United Nations’ ECE R44/04 and ECE R129 specifications. This comes ahead of the enforcement of the use of child seats from Jan 1.

At present, over 40 product models from six local and foreign brands on LazMall carry the Lazada Car Seat Assurance icon, with prices ranging from RM100 to RM1,599. The child seats that have so far been cleared by Lazada Malaysia come from the following brands: Joie, Koopers, Sweet Cherry, Quinton, Sweet Heart Paris and Chicco.

Approved car seats can be identified via the Lazada Car Seat Assurance icon. Lazada said it guarantees that each car seat bearing this icon are sold by sellers who have submitted to Lazada copies of UNR44 or UNR129 certificates (which are strict and comprehensive sets of child car seat safety regulations by the UN) as well as crash test reports. This product documentation has also been submitted to Miros for further validation that they are safe for use.

The MoU was signed by Lazada Malaysia chief business officer Kevin Lee and Miros director-general Dr Siti Zaharah Ishak. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Haji Kamarudin Jaffar, Miros chairman Datuk Suret Singh and Lazada Malaysia public policy and government affairs vice-president Shahrul Shaari.
