Lepas L4 likely to launch in Malaysia

JAKARTA: Chery Group's Lepas brand has been in the global limelight recently, and its L4 compact SUV made its first overseas appearance at the Jakarta International Motor Show.

It's likely to be launched in Malaysia in the near future, as Lepas Malaysia has set up its Facebook and Instagram pages.

The L4 had rolled off the production line in China in mid-July, and is billed as stylish, agile, refined, and a "fashionable companion".

The L4 features a 13.2-inch central control and instrument display, paired with a Snapdragon 8155 cockpit chip, as well as APA (Auto Parking Assist) and L2 level ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) capabilities.

For practicality, the L4 offers 31 storage compartments (34 in the BEV or battery electric vehicle version), foldable rear seats, versatile layouts, and elastic net pockets.

The L4 also offers a 750kg towing capacity, roof rack, dashcam, and detachable camping lights.

Its exterior adopts the "Leopard Aesthetic" — drawing inspiration from the dynamic muscle lines of leopards and pairing them with vertical-pupil headlights.

Meanwhile, iol.co.za reported that the L4 will enter South Africa's hotly contested compact SUV market in 2026.

"Power is likely to come from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and given Chery’s new energy push, a hybrid version will surely be in the running too," said the report.
