SHAH ALAM: Police have advised owners of vehicles affected by the recent floods to lodge reports personally and not through third parties.

They should also take photographs of the vehicles and provide complete information on the condition and who towed them, said Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan.

He said to ease the process of making the police reports, the owners should also state the last location of their vehicles before the floods occurred.

“If the vehicles are lost or broken into, list the missing valuables from these vehicles,” he said at the flood operation centre at Taman Sri Muda on Saturday.
Comm Abd Jalil added that the owners should also obtain information from the towing companies or the local authorities on where the vehicles would be taken to.

He also reminded the owners to take photographs of their vehicles before being towed away and the tow trucks used for reference by the insurance companies.

Comm Abd Jalil said 40 men and three women had been arrested following several cases of thefts and looting in flooded areas in Selangor since Dec 17.

“We are investigating all cases and will refer them to the deputy public prosecutors once the investigations are completed,” he said.

According to Bernama, he also advised the public to prioritise their personal safety as well as safeguard their belongings.

“Comply with the instructions in flooded areas,” he said.
