KUALA LUMPUR: More than 500 Porsche cars and their owners from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and beyond gathered at the LYL International Karting Circuit last week for the third edition of LuftWasser.
The Porsche community event that took place on Sept 5 featured the theme “Icona Heritage” and featured a line-up of vehicles stretching from classic to current models.
This ranged from the iconic front-engined rear-wheel-drive 944 to Macans, Cayennes, all-electric Taycans and the mighty 911 in standard and modified forms, as well as a lone Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau agricultural tractor from the 1950s.
The move to the new venue in Sungai Long also allowed LuftWasser to grow in scale, with Porsche enthusiasts, collectors and builders coming together to celebrate the marque and its heritage.
This year’s event was supported by Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, for the first time since LuftWasser was conceived.
Meguiar’s by Karrus Automotive Group served as the title sponsor, with the event also supported by BeanBrothers MY, La Marzocco, Hoehuat, TRBLMKRS and FSE by bespoq.
The event also saw Karrus Automotive Group officially launch its regional distributorship of Meguiar’s for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
Beyond the cars, LuftWasser 2026 was driven by the owners and builders who have helped shape the Porsche community in the region.
The gathering brought together everything from classic air-cooled models to water-cooled Porsches and newer electric models, to showcase the evolution of the German marque.
The name LuftWasser refers to the German words for air (luft) and water (wasser), reflecting Porsche’s two major engine eras.
While the event began with a strong focus on air-cooled and water-cooled Porsches, its scope has expanded to include the brand’s move towards electrification.
The “Icona Heritage” theme placed greater emphasis on Porsche’s history, with displays tracing the marque’s evolution through the decades, including its motorsport heritage, design development and presence on Malaysian roads.
For visitors, one of the main attractions was the variety of cars gathered in one place.
The regional participation also added to the diversity, with cars coming from neighbouring countries alongside local examples.
Some of the rarer Porsches on display are seldom encountered at local gatherings. LuftWasser has grown considerably since its previous edition.
The 2024 event attracted more than 4,000 visitors from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, with more than 500 Porsches gathered at the event.
For LuftWasser executive director and founding committee member Qhalis Najmi, however, the cars remain only part of the story.
“LuftWasser has always been about bringing people together through a shared passion for Porsche,” he said.
That community focus remained evident at this year’s event, where owners, enthusiasts, families and builders gathered around a common interest in Porsche rather than a particular model or generation.
The presence of Porsche Malaysia also marked a new chapter for LuftWasser, giving the community-led event official support from the marque while retaining its grassroots character.
With its expanded regional participation, rare Porsche line-up and stronger industry support, LuftWasser 2026 has established itself as one of the more significant Porsche community gatherings in Malaysia.
The event also demonstrated how Porsche ownership has evolved beyond the cars themselves, bringing together a regional community that continues to preserve the marque’s past while embracing its future.
