Malaysian company to bring in BYD T3 electric vehicle

KUALA LUMPUR: CSH Alliance Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, Alliance EV Sdn Bhd (AEV) is applying for an approved permit (AP) from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and other approvals from relevant authorities to bring in the complete-built-up (CBU) units of BYD T3 electric vehicle (EV) into the country.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, CSH said AEV had obtained the manufacturing licence for the assembly of commercial electric vans and model approval for local assembly of electric commercial van, primarily the BYD T3 EV.

“The local assembly of the said model shall be set up in Tanjung Malim in compliance with the regulations and standards of construction and safety of electric power-trained vehicles including any other technical requirements as set out by the Road Transport Department (JPJ),” CSH said.

“In view of the approval, AEV will proceed to finalise the detailed commercial arrangements with BYD for the implementation and execution of the local assembly plant in Tanjung Malim,” it added.

Back in December 2021, AEV ventured into the commercial EV market. The venture was made possible through a memorandum of understanding signed between the company and BYD Malaysian Sdn Bhd (BYD Malaysia) and a subsequent letter of appointment from BYD Malaysia outlining both parties’ intention to work together in the business of distribution of the BYD T3 commercial electric van model as well as to set up a local assembly plant for the said model.

“We have worked closely with Malaysia’s authorities board, such as MITI and MIDA, and successfully obtained the manufacturing licence for assembly of commercial electronic van including model approval for local assembly of electric commercial van primarily the BYD T3 electric van,” executive director Jeff Chong said in a statement.
