PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man who went around stealing old and abandoned vehicles.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said among the vehicles seized was a Perodua Kancil which was reported stolen nearly six years ago.

"We received that report on Jun 19, 2017 that the vehicle went missing from a parking lot at Desa Mentari from a 39-year-old woman.

"On March 1, at around 5.30pm, a team went to Jalan Wawasan Pusat Bandar Puchong and arrested a 32-year-old man," he told reporters at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Wednesday (March 8).

He said during the raid, police found two Proton Wira, a Proton Perdana and a Proton Saga parked behind the suspect’s house.

"Checks revealed one of the Proton Wira cars was reported stolen in Serdang while the other vehicles’ chassis numbers and engine numbers were tampered with.

"During interrogations, the suspect confessed to his involvement in car thefts and claimed he hid one of the stolen vehicles at Sungai Way," he said, adding that the suspect then led police to the Sri Subang Apartment where the stolen Perodua Kancil was found.

He said checks revealed the suspect has a record for vehicle theft and drug offences.

"The man has been linked to a case in Petaling Jaya and Serdang. The suspect has been handed over to the Serdang police to help with their investigations," he said.
