Mazda CX-60 launched: RM200K, RWD, 2.5L, 189hp/261Nm, 8-speed auto

PETALING JAYA: Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, has opened the order books for the mid-sized rear-wheel driven CX-60 crossover sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Priced on-the-road without insurance at RM200,510 (East Malaysia - RM202,900), the CX-60 is a fully-imported model that rolls out of the Japanese carmaker's Hofu plant, located within the Yamaguchi Prefecture of Japan.

Orders for the CX-60 can be made at all authorised Mazda dealerships nationwide with deliveries expected to begin in mid-September.

The CX-60 is available in five colour options of Soul Red, Rhodium White, Jet Black, Platinum Quartz and Zircon Sand.

Like all Mazda vehicles, except for the BT-50 pickup truck, the CX-60 comes with a five-year or 100,000km warranty, and this includes a five-year free maintenance programme with all required maintenance labour, parts, and lubricants.

Touted to offer a premium driving experience, it also boasts of enhanced driving pleasure, sophistication, performance, and luxury.

Under the hood lies a 2.5-litre (2,488cc) naturally aspirated SkyActiv-G engine that's rated at 189hp at 6,000rpm and 261Nm of torque at 3,000rpm.

Power is managed by an eight-speed automatic transmission that has done away with a torque converter.

Instead, the proverbial twist is sent directly to the rear wheels.

Doing so is said to have helped minimise transmission losses, allowing for an improved throttle response and acceleration during highway cruising or stop-and-go traffic.

The CX-60 is able to sprint from 0 to 100kph in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 203kph.

With a 2,879mm wheelbase, the CX-60 has an overall length of 4,740mm, width of 1,890mm and height of 1,680mm - gifting it with a 570-litre boot (expandable to 1,726 litres).

The dimensions stem from the brand's Large Architecture Platform that's said to help improve the Jinba-Ittai (“oneness between car and driver”) effect, and the CX-60 is the first SUV to be introduced utilising such a platform.

Weighing in at 1,770kg (kerb), the high-compression direct-injected engine (13:1) drinks from a 58-litre fuel tank, and while weighing 1,770kg (kerb), this SUV can consume (at best) 7.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

While rolling on 20-inch alloys, shod with 235/50 series tyres, the wheels partially obscure the front and rear ventilated disc brakes, while the entirety hides the front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension system - giving it a 175mm ride-height.

Illumination comes from LEDs for the rear light clusters and front automatic headlights with signature illumination and automatic levelling.

For added comfort and convenience, the CX-60 is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, automatic wipers, keyless entry with push-start button, walk-away lock, hands-free powered tailgate, and auto-folding exterior mirrors with memory function and integrated turn signals.

Inside, the five-seater cabin features leather upholstery, frameless rear view mirror with auto-dimming function, one-touch powered windows with anti-pinch function, a heads-up display, power-adjustable steering column, multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, dual-zone climate controls, rear cabin vent, LED cabin lighting, wireless charger, four Type-C ports and two driving modes (Normal and Sport).

The powered front seats provide 10-way adjustability and memory function for the driver, while the front passenger only has eight-way adjustability.

Meanwhile, those seated at the rear are provided with a manually reclinable backrest to improve comfort levels during long hauls.

While the driver gets a dedicated 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, taking centre-stage is another 12.3-inch colour TFT LCD multi-info display on the dashboard.

The latter powers a 12-speaker Bose sound system and comes with Bluetooth connectivity, a 360-degree view with dynamic guide-lines and see-through function, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control, emergency stop signal, hill launch assist and auto-hold function.

A new inclusion is the Kinematic Posture Control that helps to improve this SUV's overall stability by braking the inner wheel during dynamic driving stints.

Further bolstering safety under the band's i-Activsense advanced diver aid system are high beam assist, adaptive LED headlights, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross traffic alert, front cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure prevention, driver attention alert with driver monitoring system, front and rear smart brake support, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function and finally cruising and traffic support system.
