MCE and Nanjing Chuhang to develop autonomous driving radar solutions
By CARSIFU | 05 November 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Automotive electronics and mechatronics solutions provider MCE Holdings Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, MCE Ventures Sdn Bhd, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nanjing Chuhang Technology Co Ltd to exclusively develop, manufacture and market automotive millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar from Malaysia for global markets, excluding China.
Founded in 2017, Chuhang is a pioneer in mmWave sensing radar technology with a pre-research center in Stuttgart, an R&D headquarters in Nanjing, and manufacturing bases in
Shanghai and Anqing.
Chuhang has established partnerships with major automakers, including Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Leapmotor, Chery, Great Wall, Dongfeng, and VinFast, showcasing its robust capabilities in producing high-quality, technologically advanced products.
mmWave radar technology is an essential component for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving applications, enabling vehicles to detect and respond to their surroundings with precision and reliability.
Under the MOU, MCE and Chuhang will form a new company to leverage their combined strengths, opening up new market opportunities and allowing both companies to diversify their business prospects in automotive electronics and advanced technologies.
Chuhang will bring its technical expertise to the venture, including technology transfer, product development support, and assistance in establishing a production line in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, MCE will establish the manufacturing facility at its upcoming MCE Auto Hub in Serendah, set to be operational by the second half of next year, while strategically using its
extensive network to tap into opportunities in domestic and overseas markets.
The collaboration comes at a time when the growing demand for autonomous driving solutions, spurred by the rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), is transforming the automotive industry.
By integrating Chuhang’s mmWave radar technology with MCE’s established expertise in automotive electronics, this partnership aims to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet the
automotive market’s demand for advanced features in next-generation autonomous vehicles.
As these systems continue to advance, MCE is well-placed to offer comprehensive solutions that cater to the growing demand for autonomous vehicles in key markets.
MCE Group managing director Dr Goh Kar Chun said: ““We are excited to embark on this collaboration with Chuhang Technology, which aligns with MCE's focus on high value, complex electronic and mechatronic components.
“This venture marks another milestone in our efforts to provide a comprehensive range of technologically sophisticated products that cater to the growing demands of local and
overseas markets, while benefiting from Chuhang’s expertise in cutting-edge radar technologies. We are eager to explore future opportunities through this collaboration.”
In addition to manufacturing, the MOU also focuses on taking up research and development (R&D) functions, working on both the software and hardware aspects of mmWave radar systems.
MCE is a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engaged in the engineering, design and manufacturing of automotive electronics and mechatronic parts for the Malaysian and
regional markets.
